ATLANTA, GA., October 31, 2016: Miles Mediation & Arbitration Services, the largest ADR firm in Georgia, today announced that it earned the highest honors in Daily Report’s Annual Best Of Reader Rankings Survey. Miles was named the #1 Alternative Dispute Resolution Firm, and Gregory J. Parent, Team Leader at Miles, earned the distinction of being voted the #1 Mediator/Arbitrator. John Miles, founder of Miles, was voted the #2 Mediator/Arbitrator.

This is the third consecutive year Miles was voted into the top spot, and Mr. Parent’s inaugural award is a category that the Daily Report added this year—a testament to the growing industry of ADR and the need to identify top mediators and arbitrators.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as the premier ADR firm in Georgia,” said John Miles. “I am proud of this accomplishment, not because we won an award, but because of what it represents. It represents our clients’ trust, and it’s their trust that has led to the growth and success of Miles. Greg’s achievement is even more remarkable when you consider that he has only been mediating since 2012. He’s the best in the state and his best years are still ahead of him.”

The Daily Report’s Best Of Readers Ranking Survey gives legal professionals an opportunity to vote for the best legal service providers and products. For more information and to see a list of the complete results, click here.

Prior to joining Miles, Ms. Williamson was the Executive Director of the Mediation Center in Savannah. She began her career as an associate and litigator with Oliver Maner & Gray, and after training under Edie Primm of the Atlanta Justice Center and joining the founding board of directors for the Mediation Center in 1986, she focused entirely on her career as a mediator and trainer. Over the past thirty years, Ms. Williamson has trained hundreds of mediators and conducted over 500 mediations.

Within the “Team Approach” model at Miles, Wendy Williamson will join Daniel Cohen’s team, and work in concert with fellow team member, Sally Akins, incoming President of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association. “I have known Wendy Williamson for over 30 years, as a practicing attorney and as a mediator,” said Daniel Cohen, Miles Team Leader. “She is incredibly intelligent and keen on all aspects of mediation. Her ability to empathize with parties, educate and motivate counsel and parties, and to be creative in the mediation environment makes her one of the best mediators in the state,” Cohen continued. “We are lucky to have her as part of the Coastal Georgia-based team.”

Ms. Williamson is an appointed member of the Governor’s Georgia Commission on Child Support, which establishes and assesses child support guidelines, creates and maintains the Georgia Child Support Calculator, assists in crafting state legislation and provides training for judges, attorneys, and civilians. Ms. Akins has mediated numerous cases over the years and will now mediate exclusively for Miles in the Savannah metro area. She is President-elect of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and a partner at Ellis, Painter, Ratteree & Adams in Savannah, where she has practiced since 1993.

Since serving as a judicial clerk after law school graduation, she has engaged exclusively in civil trial practice, handling cases involving premises liability, automobile and truck accidents, professional negligence (medical, legal and pharmaceutical) litigation involving counties and municipalities, including civil rights and zoning cases, insurance coverage litigation and products liability.

Both Ms. Akins and Team Leader Danny Cohen are considered to be among the best mediators in Georgia. “When John Miles asked me to add to my team, I immediately thought of Sally Akins,” said Team Leader Danny Cohen. “It is so important to surround yourself with people you know and trust. Those are the exact attributes that make one a great mediator,” continued Mr. Cohen. “Sally has significant litigation experience, but she will remain fair, objective and sincere as she navigates parties and counsel through the mediation process. I am so delighted to have her on board, and her name further adds tremendous credibility to Miles Mediation’s new Savannah office.”

Team Parent mediator Gino Brogdon received two awards recently. The National Trial Lawyers Association named him to its prestigious Top 40 under 40 list. Additionally, the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys selected him as a “Top Ten Attorney Under 40.”

Gino has been recognized this year as a rising leader on a number of fronts including acceptance into the 2016 Class of both GTLA Lead and LEAD Atlanta. His accolades also include being named to the National Top 100 Black Lawyers list. Team Leader Joe Murphey has been named a 2016 ADR Champions “Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal. He is the only mediator in Georgia to receive such distinction this year.

Joe was recognized for his outstanding career as a full-time mediator, as well as his meaningful contribution to the ADR industry. He is one of the most sought after mediators in the Southeast, having mediated more than 2,000 cases.

“It is no surprise to me that Joe has been honored in this manner,” said Miles founder John Miles. “He is the most skilled mediator I’ve observed, and this is why he’s the most requested mediator in the state. However, as the owner of Miles, I’ve been most impressed by Joe’s ability to recruit, train and mentor new mediators. He manages the largest and most profitable team in the company.”

Joe Murphey is a founding member of the Georgia Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators, as well as the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, associations recognizing the top 5% of neutral attorneys in the state, and nation. He was a civil litigator with Crim & Bassler, LLP for nearly 20 years before devoting his practice to mediation. He joined Miles in 2007 and became a Team Leader in 2009, and since that time, he has been an integral part of the company’s success.

According to Joe, his personal and professional philosophy is that “making a human connection with the parties must precede settlement of the case. People don’t care what you know until they know that you care. I’ve laughed with folks, cried with them, and prayed with them, at mediation. You must be willing to do whatever it takes to connect.”
