Michael is a Spanish-speaking attorney with over a decade of experience litigating personal injury, civil rights, insurance coverage, real property, and business disputes in state and federal court. He has successfully litigated cases involving multiple parties, insurance coverage issues, jurisdictional issues, conflicts of law issues, and more.
In his trial practice, Michael is a founding partner of Eshman Begnaud, LLC and has represented plaintiffs in cases involving premises liability, strict product liability, medical malpractice, trucking and automobile collisions, civil rights (§ 1983), governmental liability, public and private nuisance, and class actions. Before starting his own firm, Michael spent nearly a decade working for defense firms, defending doctors and nurses, apartment owners and managers, other business owners, and insurers in various types of injury lawsuits, insurance coverage disputes, and business disputes. On both sides, Michael has handled cases with multimillion-dollar value and cases that resolved for a few thousand dollars. No matter the value, Michael appreciates the importance of every case to the parties.
Michael brings his multi-faceted perspective and active experience in litigation to his mediation practice. He believes there is incredible value in making sure all participants feel heard. His ability to listen and communicate in English and Spanish is particularly helpful when working with Spanish-speaking parties and others with limited English proficiency. Attorneys who have mediated with Michael observe that he “[offers] insight clearly based in experience” and does an excellent job connecting with their clients and making their clients feel comfortable with the process.
Michael is half-Colombian from his mom and half-Wisconsonian from his dad. He grew up speaking English and Spanish in his home and spent nearly every other summer in Colombia growing up. He is a “Double Dawg” graduate from the UGA School of Public and International Affairs and the UGA School of Law. Michael serves as a board member and the mentoring chair of the Georgia Latino Law Foundation, an organization that intentionally supports and promotes Latinx law students in Georgia. Additionally, he is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and Georgia Hispanic Bar Association, a GTLA LEAD graduate and Verdict Board Member, and a barrister in the Judge Clarence Cooper Inn of Court. Michael, his wife, two kids, and rambunctious puppy Gloria Estefan live in Druid Hills.
