Mediator Amy Adelman joins Miles with a depth and breadth of expertise in higher education and labor and employment law. Throughout her 34-year legal career, both in-house and in private practice, she has balanced her strong advocacy skills with a keen ability to resolve complex and emotionally charged disputes.

Amy’s mediation practice focuses on the wide range of disputes specific to higher education, including tenure and promotion issues, open expression and free speech, academic freedom, student disciplinary matters, Title IX, Title VI, campus safety, shared governance, and disability accommodation disputes. She also resolves the full range of labor and employment issues, such as Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, NLRA, non-competes, and employment-related contract and tort claims. Her empathy and ability to find creative solutions to complex problems serves her well in mediation.

At Emory, she served as associate general counsel, senior managing attorney, deputy general counsel, and interim senior vice president and general counsel. Amy’s primary focus was labor and employment counseling and student-related disputes, advising on and resolving hundreds of matters. She was also responsible for overseeing Emory’s litigation portfolio, including all disputes related to faculty, staff, and students, commercial litigation, tort claims, and various class actions. She was a founding member of Emory’s Threat Assessment Team. Prior to joining Emory in 2003, Amy spent 11 years in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Kilpatrick Townsend, where she became a partner in 1999.
