Ann Shields

Ann Davis Shields is an accomplished mediator and legal educator with extensive experience in mediation, labor and employment law, and legal education. She serves as a Professor of Practice and Director of Pretrial Practice and Settlement at Washington University School of Law, where she teaches Legal Practice, Negotiation, and Pretrial Practice and Settlement courses.

In addition to her teaching, Professor Shields conducts investigations for school boards across Missouri to evaluate allegations of policy violations by students, staff, or faculty. She also mediates employment and ADA disputes in Missouri and Kansas.

Professor Shields is actively involved in the St. Louis Mediation Project, providing free mediation services to courts and the community. Since 2005, she has served as the Ombudsperson for Washington University School of Law, advocating for fairness and resolving conflicts within the institution.

Before joining the faculty at Washington University, Professor Shields practiced labor and employment law at Bryan Cave, a prominent St. Louis law firm.
