Ken Chackes

Ken Chackes is an experienced mediator and attorney, having mediated over 200 cases since 1999, with a focus on employment, civil rights, and education disputes. Additionally, he has represented parties in over 100 mediations as part of his extensive litigation practice.

Ken is a Qualified Mediator for several key institutions, including:

  • U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri
  • Circuit Court for the City of St. Louis
  • U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Ken’s legal expertise spans employment discrimination, disability law, education law, civil rights, clergy sex abuse, and other civil matters. Since 2002, he has represented over 300 survivors of childhood sexual abuse. He is the principal attorney at Ken Chackes, LLC and was a founding partner of Chackes Carlson, LLP. He has also held various prominent legal positions, including Staff Attorney and Statewide Managing Attorney for Missouri Protection and Advocacy Services, and he currently serves as a Hearing Officer in special education and Title IX hearings.

Ken has contributed to legal education as a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor at Washington University School of Law (1984–1988), where he taught Trial Practice, Pre-trial Practice and Procedure, and led the Civil Litigation Clinic. He also served on the Training Faculty for Washington University’s Master Class in Civil Mediation and Two-Day Civil Mediation Training (2004).

Mediation Rates
2 Party Case: $200 per party; per hour
3 Party Case: $150 per party; per hour
4 Party Case: $125 per party; per hour
5+ Party Case: Flat Rate Available Upon Request

Travel time and expenses, including meals and lodging, billed separately and split equally among the parties at the Neutral's hourly rate.
Pre/Post Consultation & Document Review: Hourly Mediation/Arbitration Rate

Mediation Admin Fees
St. Louis Mediation Admin Fee - $250 per party

MEDIATION CANCELLATION POLICY

Mediations cancelled within 10 days of the mediation will be charged a cancellation fee of $500. However, mediations cancelled, rescheduled or settled within 24 hours of the mediation will be charged 4 hrs. of the Neutral's hourly rate . Cancellation fees shall be sent to the cancelling party unless otherwise agreed to by the parties.
