Mike Miller
Hon. Mike Miller has been a full-time mediator and arbitrator since 2016. He graduated from LaPorte High School, Southwestern University, and the University of Texas School of Law. Mike was sworn in as a lawyer with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in December 1980 and tried his first jury trial on his second day on the job.
Mike spent his entire career in Texas courtrooms as a trial lawyer and judge. During his first eight years, he tried approximately 75 criminal cases, including the defense of a capital murder case, and became board-certified in criminal law in 1988. That same year, he transitioned to civil litigation, moving to Houston to join a large insurance defense firm where he began handling and trying personal injury cases. Over the next 20 years, he tried approximately 75 civil jury trials in Dallas, Ellis, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Orange, Brazoria, Bexar, and Taylor Counties. From 1993 through 2008, he worked primarily on the plaintiffs’ side of the docket.
Mike was board-certified in personal injury trial law in 1993, achieved an AV rating, and was elected as an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in 2009. His experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants included mediating and settling hundreds of cases.
In 2008, Mike was elected to the 11th District Court and was reelected in 2012. Beginning in 2009, first as the designated Harris County pretrial court judge and later as an MDL court judge, he was responsible for handling all pretrial matters in nearly 10,000 Hurricane Ike cases statewide. During his eight years as a civil district judge, he presided over and tried dozens of cases involving commercial contracts and torts, employment matters, personal injury, real estate, debt collection, and property tax appeals.
Mike retired from the bench in 2016 and began his mediation and arbitration practice.
