Message from Mediator Christopher Smith

Friends and Colleagues,

Greetings from all of us here in the Savannah Office of Miles Mediation & Arbitration.  Summer is in full swing here in the Coastal Empire, and the kids have finished their online school odyssey just in time…for us all to go back to work.

As we enter the next phase of the COVID-19 challenge, there is a great deal of fear and anxiety amongst both employers and employees as we prepare to reopen for business.  Do we wear masks?  Can I go back to work if I’m over 65?  What if I have no childcare?  What if my employee gets sick and sues me?  To help address these concerns,  I got together with my friends Sarah Lamar and Wade Herring, who are two of the top employment lawyers in Georgia (or anywhere else for that matter!) to give real answers to real questions.  I hope you enjoy the podcast.

One thing to keep in mind is that while litigators like myself are dusting off our briefcases, and our law firms are opening back up, our courthouses remain closed for civil jury trials.  There is still no clear consensus on when we will conduct our next voir dire.  In these uncertain times, I believe that mediation and arbitration are now more important than ever, as “alternative dispute resolution” has become the only dispute resolution.

From all of us at Miles, stay safe, stay healthy, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Christopher “Smitty” Smith
