Mediator Sally Akins to Receive Distinguished Leader Award

SAVANNAH, April 19, 2019– SALLY AKINS WILL RECEIVE A 2019 GEORGIA LEGAL AWARD BY DAILY REPORT.
Sally will receive the ‘Distinguished Leader’ award at The Georgia Legal Awards dinner in Atlanta on June 20. The Distinguished Leader awards go to lawyers who achieved impressive results in 2018 and demonstrated clear leadership skills that helped them achieve those results. Sally is a mediator and arbitrator with Miles in Savanah and Atlanta and serves as a partner at Ellis, Painter, Ratterree & Adams in Savannah. She is running for the position of Secretary for the State Bar of Georgia.
Sally handles disputes involving premises liability, automobile and truck accidents, professional negligence (medical, legal and pharmaceutical) litigation involving counties and municipalities including civil rights cases and zoning cases, insurance coverage litigation, and products liability. She is a past president of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Savannah chapter of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.
She is the immediate past president of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (GDLA), and has served as president of American Board of Trial Advocates (Southeast Georgia Chapter) and the Savannah chapter of Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL).
Sally has been a member of the state bar Board of Governors since 2010 and was appointed by the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia to the court’s advisory committee. She is a member of the Board of Bar Examiners, the Defense Research Institute, and a Georgia Delegate of the American Bar Association.
Sally has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer for ten consecutive years and Top 50 Female Georgia Super Lawyer since 2012, and she has been the recipient of numerous legal awards throughout her distinguished career.
