Sally Akins Honored with Georgia Legal Award

SAVANNAH – June 19, 2019 – Miles Mediation & Arbitration mediator and arbitrator Sally Akins has received a “Distinguished Leader” award from the Daily Report. She was honored at The Georgia Legal Awards recognition event in Atlanta on July 19. 

 

According to the Daily Report, the “Distinguished Leader” awards went to lawyers “who achieved impressive results in 2018 and demonstrated clear leadership skills that helped them achieve those results.”

 

Akins is a former president of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the state’s organization of civil litigation defense attorneys. In addition to her successful mediation and arbitration career, Sally recognized for GDLA was a high point in a career of service to professional organizations, including the State Bar of Georgia. Last year, the General Practice & Trial Section gave her its  Tradition of Excellence Award for the defense, the section’s highest accolade bestowed upon a litigator.

 

Akins also was appointed by the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia to its Local Rules Committee, and in 2017 the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit appointed her to the court’s Advisory Committee, where she continues to serve.

 

Akins is a full-time mediator and arbitrator based in Miles Mediation & Arbitration’s Savannah office. handles disputes involving premises liability, automobile and truck accidents, professional negligence (medical, legal and pharmaceutical) litigation involving counties and municipalities including civil rights cases and zoning cases, insurance coverage litigation, and products liability.
