Education Divison Updates: Q&A with Tangela Richmond

In this month’s Thoughts from the Top, we speak with Tangela Richmond, our director of education, about recent updates that can be expected from our Education Division.
Q: Miles is hosting an in-person General Civil Mediation Training on March 20-23 with a practicum on March 29-30. Can you tell us more about this opportunity and why it’s different from other mediation training programs?
A: Miles’ training program is led by the incomparable Joe Murphey, who has mediated over 3000 cases. Joe’s knowledge and experience in mediation is unmatched by any other mediation training program in Georgia.
Joe brings a unique perspective to the training and has worked on these training materials for many years. We think he has developed a program that will allow attendees to not only learn mediation skills but to successfully pivot into the mediation as a full-time career.
This training will allow attendees to participate in interactive simulations and learn about the business of mediation.
Q: Miles offers a catalog of on-demand CLE courses. Are there any new CLE courses coming up that you’re particularly excited about?
A: We have five new CLE courses developed by the neutrals in our St. Louis office that will soon be available, including:
- Ethics in Negotiation, led by Jim Reeves
- Maximizing Legal Success: Decision Trees for Risk Analysis, Client Communication, and Mediation Preparation, led by Mark Walker
- Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Implications for Attorney Mediators, led by Mary Ann Wymore
- Resolving FELA and Jones Act Cases by Mediation, led by Ted Williams
- Arbitration Process, Procedure and Drafting Technique, led by Rob Litz
Q: Based on recent feedback, are there any specific areas of legal education that Miles is planning to focus on or expand soon?
A: We will be working with our neutrals to provide webinars on trending mediation topics, and we are looking forward to hosting our first Medical Malpractice Seminar in the fall. Stay tuned for more details!
